Our Story
New River Land Surveying was formed in Boone, NC in 2001 by Surveyor Russell C. Shaw. In 2020 Russell retired, and current owner Alexander W. Crowe purchased the business from him.
Since its founding, New River Land Surveying has been providing superior surveying services to Watauga, Ashe, Avery, Wilkes and the surrounding counties, emphasizing professionalism and courtesy. NRLS has a wide range of surveying experience behind our name. As surveying technology and trends develop within the professional community, we strive to continue to provide the same professional service to our clients.
Alexander W. Crowe, PLS
Alexander W. Crowe, PLS, is a licensed Professional Land Surveyor serving northwestern North Carolina, including Boone, West Jefferson, Ashe, Wilkes, Caldwell and Avery Counties. Originally from the Murphy/Robbinsville area of western North Carolina, Alex brings a strong connection to the region and a deep understanding of its unique terrain and land use patterns.
He holds a degree in Community and Regional Planning with a concentration in GIS from Appalachian State University and continued his studies in geomatics at NC A&T.
Alex became licensed in 2019 and is an active member of both the North Carolina Society of Surveyors (NCSS) and the National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS). He currently serves as Vice President of the NCSS Northwest Chapter, supporting surveyors across the region.
Since acquiring New River Land Surveying in 2020, Alex has been committed to continuing the strong partnerships built by founder Russell Shaw—including long-standing relationships with local builders, architects, developers, and attorneys.
